Deep Tech Matching Day: a full day of letting people try Dory

Fifty-six deep tech startups, dozens of corporates and investors, and no voice left by the end of it. Thank you, PoliHub.

On June 30 we spent the day at the Deep Tech Matching Day, among 56 deep tech startups, with Dory on a counter and dozens of corporates and investors moving between the stands. It was the last stop of three months of incubation with Switch2Product, and it was a fantastic day.

A format built for a product like ours

The Matching Day isn't a Demo Day. There's no three minutes on a stage. You stay at your counter and build the day one conversation at a time.

For a product like ours that's the ideal setup. Dory is an object that lives in your home, and describing it never lands the way showing it does. Anyone who stopped by got it within seconds: you lift your keys off the tray and Dory tells you out loud what you're about to forget. We talked from the doors opening to the doors closing and had no voice left at the end.

Three months with Switch2Product

Switch2Product is run by the Technology Transfer Office of Politecnico di Milano, PoliHub and Officine Innovazione di Deloitte. Out of 181 projects assessed, 50 went into the incubation track that started in March, spread across five deep tech verticals, each one with a dedicated mentor.

Three months sounds short until you're inside it. For us it was enough to rethink a couple of things we were certain about in this market, and to show up at the Matching Day with a far stronger story than the one we had in March.

Thank you to PoliHub, to everyone at Switch2Product, and to our mentor, who spent three months asking us the questions we didn't feel like answering. With hindsight that was the entire point.

June 30 was also the final edition of the incubation programs under the PoliHub name. From here the work continues inside Tech Europe Foundation, alongside B4i, and being part of that last round means something to us.
